Feeding Charlee

I was talking with a friend the other day about when I started feeding Charlee and all of the products that I used. I know all babies are different, but I figure I could share what worked for us. We started with cereal at six months, we tried rice and oatmeal she was more of an oatmeal fan, but never really loved either. She did better when we added fruit to the oatmeal, but it didn't take us long to go ahead and only do fruit and veggies.

I decided I wanted to make Charlees baby food. Which ended up not being as hard as I imagined it would, of course it was time consuming. We found the babycook at the William Sonoma outlet for half price when I was pregnant, which was definitely a score for us. It really does everything for you. You just peal and cut the fruits/veggies then add water according to what you cook, it steams then you purée and voila it's done. The individual freezer containers were amazing I only bought two but could have definitely used more. Since it is time consuming I would set aside a few hours and make a bunch of food at once and store it. Which made those so great because you could freeze them and then pop out the individual servings as needed. I also like the pouches and the squeeze station, they make it so easy and convenient to make your own food. I used those most when we were going somewhere and not at home because they were not reusable. I used little mason jars to put individual servings in and then I would put them in her bottle warmer to heat them, you can also put them in the fridge the day before or so to thaw.

There are so many things that you read about feeding veggies or fruit first we decided to start her with apples. I actually have a funny story about that my husband went to the store to buy apples to make for her, he came home with green apples which of course are pretty sour he said those were his favorite when he was a kid so he thought Charlee would love them! I didn't have the heart to tell him that they were sour and she probably wouldn't eat them so I went ahead and made them and gave them to her, her face was priceless and of course she didn't really enjoy them. When she gets a little older we will try again! After apples we did veggies she loved carrots, sweet potatoes, bananas, and green beans pretty much everything we gave her she enjoyed.

We have also loved the puffs, Charlee is a big fan. She also really liked the little yums they are for teething and would keep her occupied for awhile.

Charlee stopped taking the bottle a few months ago, so when she was not nursing she takes a sippy cup. The two below are our favorites, we have also used the cute holiday ones from target and of course I think they all eventually leak, it doesn't help that Charlee chunks hers on the ground when she is eating. The little munchkin snack catcher is also a must in my book, she walks around with it and gets her own little snacks out without spilling. And the itzy ritzy snack packs are great for the diaper bag.

I hope this helps. I know there are so many products out there and it's so hard to get started it's really overwhelming. But it is so much fun to watch your baby start to enjoy food.
